Government stands firm against call to ban woodcock shooting

I was reading it this morning and considering the success of shooting we had had around woodcock this season: 9 shot already.

There certainly seemed to be a few around on the 8th January, but I am also mindful of the GWTCs research into the habits of these birds and how territorial they are.

Too much shooting may well destroy our domestic and migratory quarry at Tulchan.

In truth we don’t know what our true population is at Tulchan so can I suggest we show a certain amount of caution as to how many are added to the bag in these last few days of the season. It is tempting when other species numbers are so low, but a moment now may have much longer reaching consequences.

Best regards

Neil
