At the 2016 AGM it was agreed that a process was required for dealing with any perceived safety issues that arise on a shoot day. The following identifies the process that should be followed by any Beater or Gun who have a concern. The key element of this guideline is that any concerns should be flagged immediately with the relevant Day Captain and not on reflection at the end of the day or later.
Should an incident causing concern with any Gun or Beater occur, that it should be reported immediately to the shoot Shoot/ Day Captain. After verifying the situation the Shoot/ Day Captain will have the option of issuing a “Yellow or Red Card” depending on the seriousness of the incident to anyone concerned.
A Yellow Card will highlight to the offender the danger felt by the other Gun/ Beater and allow a review to take place. The offender will be able to continue to shoot that day, but a note will be retained about the incident and further issues relating to safety may cause a review of their suitability to continue with the shoot and syndicate.
A Red Card will require that the offender will be asked to cease immediately from shooting for the rest of the day pending a review. In the event of a Gun accumulating two Red Cards (no matter the period of time between them), then it is regrettable that their resignation from the Syndicate would be required.
Any review undertaken will include speaking to the concerned and the Offender, providing a chance for the Offender to respond to the concerns. Further review and decision will be made by the Captains and Treasurer.
It is imperative that all Guns (including guests) have a valid Shot Gun Licence and Shooting Insurance Cover.
