Dear All
As per my last email, I have contacted our prefered Gamefarmer to enquire as to the time-frame for decision making.
He is very confident about producing his birds and managing his own commercial shoot and fully intends to proceed with the expectation that the shooting season will happen. He has no concerns about delivering the birds. Although a number of commercial shoots are cancelling seasons I have confirmation of a number of syndicates similar to Tulchan that plan to shoot this season and are proceeding with ordering birds.
We need to confirm our order of Pheasants by
This gives us one week to decide whether we intend to order pheasants to shoot between October and end of January, or not. We will not be ordering ducks for this season as this is a decision we needed to make “yesterday” and obviously the season starts earlier giving the world less time to get back to normal.
It is unlikely we will hear any positive news about the current Government directives being lifted in the next two weeks, but I do find it hard to believe that we will not have made some progress in the battle against Corvid-19 by October and we have until the end January for potential shooting. If the directives have not changed by October, then I fear we will have larger problems to deal with than the shooting season.
I have contrived a number of potential scenarios with the Treasurer and Vice Captains for what we might do, but the reality is simple. If we do not have a full contingent of guns committed to the 20/21 season then financially it is not going to be viable. Workdays to one side, the gamble/ risk is ordering the pheasants and not being able to shoot. If we order the pheasants we will require the full subs of all syndicate members to fund the purchase and care of the birds regardless.
We are all aware of the age demographics within the syndicate. Even if the current restrictions are relaxed enough to undertake the shooting, the season is likely to remain affected in relation to the lunching and travelling as groups within vehicles. This may put a lot of onus on walking around Tulchan, a challenge for most during the wetter parts of the season. It may be that some of our members are just not willing/ able to commit to that type of physical activity or potential risk to health. As a consequence, some members may already have decided not to partake in the 20/21 season.
Actions:
- If you intend to commit to the chance of shooting this season then please pay your full subs by Wednesday, April 8th.
- Details to Pay here.
- Confirm by reply or to Allan@tulchanshoot.co.uk of payment
- If you do not intend to commit to the 20/21 season at Tulchan please let me know by Wednesday, April 8th.
We will review the responses on Wednesday evening and based on numbers make the appropriate decision. If we are a few guns short then we may look to recruit/ sell days for these few places. If we appear to be more than a few down i.e. more than 4, then it is likely we will not progress with the 20/21 season. I will obviously communicate with you after we know the position to confirm the decision and next steps.
I have an email for every member of the syndicate (included), but responses to such emails are usually very low. Please can you all nudge, kick, provoke at least 2 members to ensure that all have responded by Wednesday as it is vital that we get a full response from the syndicate one way or another.
Good health.
Neil
