Report supplied by Alistair Montgomery

It was a still clear cloudless evening. Only six guns were able to attend and we accompanied by Derek, John Mckenzie and Chalky with their dogs.

Because of the number of guns and benefiting from the Saturday Syndicates experience it was decided to place all the guns in the weedy field whilst the beaters pushed the small pond from the other side.

This produced a massive flush of birds and everyone had to be on their toes not to miss their chance. Three teal and a couple of mallards were brought down. Once the birds had been collected, four of the guns then moved on to the big pond to await the evening/dusk incoming flight and the remaining two guns stayed on opposite sides of the weedy field pond. All was still and quiet until it became quite dark, and then a rewarding number of mallards started to come in.

Once it was completely dark some time was spent in the dark locating the shot birds amongst the rushes.

The total bag was 9 mallard and 3 teal which was felt to be a good result considering the numbers of guns being down and insufficient to adequately cover the area.

Neil has suggested that the numbers of duck on the pond would support another evening for each syndicate if Derek continued to feed the ponds.

Best wishes

Alistair.
