It was a beautiful day – Frosty, but sunny. I think there is always something special about blowing off the cobwebs of Christmas with a shoot before New Year.
Before we started the shoot captain’s, Frank and Derek had a quick chat about woodcock. Previous days have respected the BASC appeal not to shoot this bird, but having counted so many the previous shoot day it was decided to put the woodcock back on the menu and limit the bag for this species to 6. By chance this was the natural result of the day and  it added to the reflexes of the guns as the cries went out.
With all days there are usually a couple of moments that are different from the norm. I would just like to make a special mention of Ken Smith who possibly had a few more cobwebs to blow out than usual. Arriving in the Roundel field he realised he had left his gun at the shoot hut. This led to some excitement as we rushed back to get it before starting the day proper. All part of the fun Ken!
Looking forward to the 4th Saturday day on the 6th January.
A thoroughly enjoyable
